In the previous blog I already talk about how simple clothing or we can say basic clothing will make people see us as a whole individual, not because our dress or outfit is great, but because we look great. Total package. Also, I already mentioned it before because we wear something easy, in the end we feel happy. I will elaborate more of it. Maybe you still have a doubt in your mind, no…it couldn’t be as simple as that, because of you wear something simple, and then you feel happy? How on earth?
I will try to answer your doubt, hopefully you will find it helping to cope with it. I have told you before, basic means easy, because it’s easy, so we will not think much about fashion, the trendiness, the coolness. Trying hard to look trendy and cool in the same time. And I know it’s exhausting. Been there done that. We’re like to focus to know the trends or the latest collections of our favourite brand, and we feel left behind if we don’t get it. In the end, our needs to be seen trendy and cool is increasing day by day. As if, we need validation from others, that we are cool and trendy enough. We will craving for more validation when someone compliment us. More and more. Indeed, we will feel satisfied. But trust me, the satisfaction only lasts for a while, and the rest is we feel exhausted to catch it again. And what will happen if there’s no more validation? I guess we start to questioning ourselves, do I not look good enough? And then, we start to feel insecure, we are like carrying the heavy fear of judgement. So, whether we got validation or not, it always brings us exhausted feeling. And we know for sure, that is no happy feeling in that kind of situation, correct?
Not to mention, by trying to seek validation from others, we will add more and more stuff in our wardrobe, we over consumed stuff. We are drowning in the world of consumerism and accumulation. And then, we will always feel confused when we want to wear something, which clothes do I have to wear? (it will lead us to one of the cause of decision fatigue) And also, we tend to feel not happy if our stuff is not well treated, maybe our daughter borrowed it, and she didn’t treat it well, we will angry. As if, stuff controlled us? In the end, I guess Henry Thoreau is right, “We don’t own things, the things own us”. Scary.
Now we try to reverse the situation. We are wearing the simple outfit. We feel easy, light, only focus to it’s function over anything. We are not trying to seek validation from other, we wear it because it can enhance our inner beauty that lies within. We feel so relaxed, calm, knowing we are enough just the way we are. And also by only wearing simple, means we already create solid foundation to the wardrobe that will lasts in the long time, because it will still be relevant. Up to date, if I may say. Knowing that, it pretty calming, right? Again, by wearing simple & basic outfit, we can create tons of great look by only a few clothes, it means that we don’t need over consumed and stuffing. We only wear what essential and bring happiness to us. Simple is More. Less is more. It means that, we OWN things. Wow, how relieved. And we can happily say, we are not drowning in the world of consumerism and accumulation. (Should we talk more about this? Maybe in the next writings).
